A Cornish-Inspired Success Story
Freda’s Peanut Butter began with a journey, a camper van and a determination to make peanut butter more exciting for British shoppers. Founders Lisa and Andrew discovered an impressive variety of natural nut butters while travelling through New Zealand in a camper van named Freda. When they returned to Cornwall, they transformed that inspiration into a distinctive food business built around bold flavours, carefully chosen ingredients and small-batch production. The brand launched in 2017. Their products have used EAN-13 barcodes from Barcode1.co.uk since 2017.
The peanut butter quickly attracted attention at farm shops, food festivals and Christmas markets, where customers embraced its creative approach to a familiar cupboard staple. Instead of offering only standard smooth and crunchy varieties, Freda’s developed imaginative recipes featuring Cornish Sea Salt, Toasted Coconut, Chipotle Chilli and Black Pepper with Cornish Sea Salt.
Freda’s uses high-oleic Argentinian peanuts to deliver a naturally rich flavour and satisfying texture. The team deeply roasts the peanuts before blending them with quality ingredients, choosing organic options wherever practical. Every jar remains plant-based, vegan-friendly and completely free from palm oil, helping the company appeal to customers seeking simple ingredients and more responsible food choices.
Multi Award-Winning Peanut Butter
Awards have strengthened Freda’s reputation across the UK. Since launching, the company has collected more than 50 Great Taste and Taste of the West awards. In 2025, its Cornish Sea Salt peanut butter received a two-star Great Taste Award, while the Smooth Original and Crunchy Original varieties each earned one star. These achievements reflect the team’s continuing focus on flavour, consistency and careful production.
The company has also gained recognition from chefs, food writers and independent retailers throughout Britain. Well-known cooks and food creators have featured Freda’s products in recipes, while television programmes and national publications have introduced the brand to wider audiences.
Customers can purchase individual jars, larger catering tubs, gift packs and selected merchandise through the Freda’s online shop. Independent stockists across the UK also help customers discover the range closer to home. They are stocked in a huge number of quality independent retailers across the UK. Although Freda’s built its identity and early success in Cornwall, the business moved to Ribchester in Lancashire during 2025. Alongside the highs, 2025 was also a year of personal challenges, with illnesses and bereavement reminding Lisa and Andrew what matters most. It inspired them to return to their roots in Lancashire and bring the business home. Freda’s new home is in and old mill in Ribchester. It’s Cornish heritage remains an important part of the story, particularly through its popular sea salt flavours.
Freda’s continues to prove that peanut butter can offer far more than a simple topping for toast. With award-winning recipes, natural ingredients and inventive British flavours, the company gives UK peanut butter lovers a memorable alternative to mass-produced supermarket spreads.
